Summersea is a small, elite and unique specialty stud situated in the picturesque historic dairy town of Pyree on the South coast of NSW.  It is run by Linda Mayer with help from her daughter, Dylan.

Summersea is small in that we have bred on average 6 foals per year. Unique and elite in that we are able to supply internationally sought after, well proven and often uncommon blood lines to breeders and riders.  Specialised in that Linda has concentrated on breeding showjumping horses only since 1976 when she, along with Philip Hazzard imported the pure jumping bred Holstein, Contact by Cor de la Bryere.

Contact was the first Cor de la Bryere stallion to leave Germany, he was also the highest priced 2yo of that year.  A little too ahead of his time in Australia, his worth failed to be recognized except by those that had competed overseas. “How did you get him out of Germany?” Colleen Brook, Guy Creighton.  Never the less, he went on to produce many sport horses and stallions and also brood mares, specifically the Vocal’s Pride xx line, crossed with Contact, arguably the most prolific producing showjumping line in Australia.

In 1996, Linda started to use imported frozen semen. With time, significant reproduction expertise and judicious purchase of frozen semen from Europe, she has been able to produce some of the best showjumping stock in Australasia.

Summersea has supplied leading riders and breeders (Gavin Chester, Rod Brown, David Finch, George Riley, Grant Hughes, Oaks Sport Horses, etc) with top quality, elite breeding stock or competition horses and congratulate and acknowledge them for supporting Australian showjumping.

The depth of showjumping blood in Summersea’s mares is the backbone of their breeding philosophy.  With mares by Carthago Z, Calvin Z, Rex Z, Landon, Parco, Lux Z, etc, Summersea is able to produce stock equal or better than what is imported from overseas.

Summersea concentrates on breeding only and regularly turns over stock on the basis -that the youngsters should be better than the parents. We sell young stock from weaning age to 6yo.  Included in these are mares after they have produced 1-3 foals so they then can realize a competition career.  In this way, fashionable, fertile, sound mares are regularly available for purchase.

Summersea places a high priority on fertility and soundness.    The percentage of functionally correct, sound, talented jumping youngsters per brood mare is phenomenal. Our horses should exceed the most discerning breeder or riders expectations.   For those that can supply the training, Summersea has the horses.
